You keep hearing to drink water to lose weight. But how much of that is fact, and how much is fiction? Can you really lose more weight if you do? How much weight can you lose?
And just how much water should a person drink per day anyway? And is it true that you can drink too much water?
Let's take a look about losing weight while drinking water. It's easier than you think.
Why Don't People Drink Enough Water?
The fact is that the majority of people don't drink enough water to lose weight. Why? Any number of reasons, including:
Your tap water tastes bad.
You fill up on coffe, tea, sodas or juice instead.
You don't want to gain water weight.
And so on -- these are just the three most common reasons.
The first is easy to solve -- if your tap water tastes bad, drink bottled water. Either that or get used to the water you have. But bottled water is so easy to find and if you buy it in cases, not very expensive. Certainly less than the same amount of sodas!
Second, while you can drink coffee, tea, etc. you cannot count them as part of your water requirement. Water first, other liquids afterward.
Finally, did you know that drinking water helps you lose that water weight? Yep. When the body gets enough water to keep it running smoothly, it releases what it's been hoarding -- that extra water weight!
How to Drink Water to Lose Weight
You've heard that you should drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. Well, that's actually the minimum. If you want to really drink water to lose weight, you likely need to drink more. In some cases, a lot more.
You need to drink half your weight in ounces. So, for example, if you weight 200 pounds, you need to drink at least 100 ounces of water per day, or roughly twelve eight-ounce glasses. Why? The more you weight in pounds, the more your body needs...and the more it hoards.
Spread out your water during the day, drinking 1 glass per hour. Drink water with lunch and dinner, instead of iced tea or sodas.
Find yourself a special glass and use it for your water. One that feels good in your hand, is pretty, and is easy on your lips and mouth.
One thing I do recommend, though, is try to drink all your water before 6 PM. You don't want to be waking up all hours of the night to run to the bathroom!
Congratulations! You now know how to drink water to lose weight.
