3 Day Fad Diet -- Good or Bad?

3 Day Fad DietA 3 day fad diet is awfully tempting!  You can eat ice cream or donuts or banana splits for three whole days -- and lose weight!

Most of these fad diets, while they may or may not have you lose weight, won't really harm you, at least not in just three days.

But there are some that can send your body on a tailspin.  They may upset your body's metabolism for the worse, or cause you to feel sick.

Is there a popular three day fad diet that doesn't harm your body?  And if so, what are some fad diet plans that work?

Find out more about these unusual plans.

Your Diet -- Fad Info

So what exactly is a fad diet, anyway?

It's an eating plan that becomes popular, seemingly overnight.  Think of it as being "fashionable" to be on one.

A diet can also be labeled "fad" if it is either heavy on an unusual item -- like hot dogs or ice cream.

All fad diet plans are not created equal, though.  Some have stood the test of time and some are new on the horizon, but are pretty well balanced.

A Popular Fad Diet

One of the most popular, and long-standing, diets labeled as "fad" is the cabbage soup diet.  Yes, it is rather strange, with cabbage soup each day (and lots of it).  Yet for three days, it's a diet that makes sure you get plenty of veggies!  And the right version will also give you a little more in the way of taste and nutrition balance.

Another popular fad diet these days is the apple diet (also known as the 3 apples a day diet). But surprise -- apples are good for you, and the diet is fairly well balanced.  This eating plan really deserves the name "fashionable" instead of "fad".

Fad Diet Plans to Stay Away From

Yes, there are 3 day fad diets that you should steer clear of.  These are diets that are so low in calories that they can mess up your metabolism, even in just three days.

One infamous example is the original 3 day tuna diet (as opposed to the new version).  The original menu was tuna fish, 3 times a day...and that's it!  The calorie count was way under 1,000 and 1,200 calories is generally the lowest that's considered safe.

Other fad diet plans to stay away from are any that cut out entire food groups for the length of the diet. Or menus that are high in heavily-processed food to the exclusion of fresh.

3 day fad diets aren't all bad, but you should choose wisely and make sure you pick one that has all four food groups.
